Catching Up, Yet Again!!!!

My plan of keeping up on blogging obviously is not working so I will try to get everyone caught up with what transpired since the 4th of July!!

Allysa- Started 7th grade at Memorial Middle School and already has experienced her 1st life lesson when she tried out for cheering and did not make but her BFF did!! It was rough couple of days but she came around. She has since decided to try again when they hold tryouts for BB cheering. Yes, we are dealing with Boys and I think we have a new boyfriend- UGH!!
Last nights conversation:
Allysa- "Mom can I ask you something".
Me- My usual answer when a she poses a question like this is "NO"!
Allysa -" Come on Mom"!! Then for the question " When was your first kiss"?
Me- In my head I am saying I am NOT ready for this. My response " I do not really remember, probably around your age"(although it might have been younger but no way was I saying that).
Then I ask "why"
Allysa- " I just wondered".
Me-"Ok, did you have your 1st kiss?" My
Allysa- " No my braces will be a problem( in my head I am saying THANK goodnes), but others girls have and more"!!!
Me- " What is more"?
Allysa -" You know"!
Me- You mean more than kissing, you realize that is not something girls your age should be doing and what it leads to"?
Allysa " Yes, Mom I am not stupid but some girls are"!!
Me- " That is nice to know"! In my head, I am still screaming- I am NOT ready for this and she is my Little girl!!!
Enough said - it should be an interesting year!!!

Ashlee- Started 4th grade and this year is not going to afternoon latch key. This is big deal for her especially when she wants to be so independent. Abbi, Alli and Ashlee all walk home together an then hang here. So far, it is working out wonderfully. She is cheering again and ironically this year it is for the Steelers!!

Me- Well I started off the end of July having to have my gallbladder out unexpectedly. This was not in my plans and ruined alot of end of summer plans!!! I am finally getting back to normal but still have to be careful with some foods. The biggest issue, I never know what food is going to send my system in a tailspin. The good news, it is good for the waistline!!!

Kevin- Kevin is Kevin. He is just trying to deal with all the girl drama and fact we had to get a new washer and dryer at the same time all my medical bills are coming in. I pretty sure he is looking forward to our trips to the burgh to see the Steelers!!

I would also like to take this opportunity to THANK all my family and friends who helped out by sending dinners or sending wonderful cards/gifts/FB messages during and after my surgery. I am BLESSED and LOVE YOU ALL!!!!

Last- a slide show to catch you up with pics since July 4th!!!

Memories- Old and New

All good things must come to end!!! However, I DO NOT have to like !!!! It was a busy fun filled week. A lot of walking down memory lane.
I took the girls to many of my old stomping grounds:
- The Gay Dolphin (a gift shop) which has been there since I can remember. Of course lots of giggles because of the name. The first thing they said when they walked it was it smell weird and I said because it is soooo old. However, they loved it and found gifts for their friends.
- Family Kingdom- they rode many of rides and I did and my FAVORITE roller coaster the swamp fox
- Showed them a few of the places I stayed and told them lots of stories
Unfortunately I also had to tell them of all the things not there.
However, they got to do a lot of things and make new memories:
- WonderWorks
-Parasailing
-Broadway on the Beach
- 70th B-day for their Grandparents. We celebrated at Landrys and they made up special menus just for them.
- Quality time with Aunt Joan and Kermit, both sets of cousins and their Grandparents
As I have said before the pics speak more than words!!

Again, I think the pictures tell the story better than I can put into words. Enjoy!!

MB Day 2/3 -2011

Again, not a whole lot to stay, the pictures speak for themselves.
The 3 older girls have spent most of their time in the Ocean which would make my Dad proud.
Today, the waves were a bit rough and there was a sting ray/shark scare- talk about screaming girls!! I think they induced panic :)

I am enjoying my 5 o'clock somewhere time and reading!

So where was I???

So where did I leave off??? Not sure so this post will be a flurry of activity!!

Allysa- has been busy finishing 6th grade. She was given the " Present Education Award" for consistently making honor roll. However, that was not as surprising as the pictures below she brought home from art. Kevin and I are absolutely amazed because neither of us have any talent. According to her, none of these are traced!! With that said, I am impressed and we may have to pursue this talent more!!

Ashlee finished soccer and here she is with her trophy. I think she wants to try again!!
Of course, Jill, Heather D, Becky and I went to the Bon Jovi concert when he hit Cbus. It was WONDERFUL, of course we missed our other groupie Jen !!! We did manage to get pulled over AGAIN, however it ended well AGAIN. Our poor designated driver did not realize all the lights were not on because they were not automatic like hers!!! All in All another AWESOME concert!!
Hocking Hills!!!! There is not much to say here except GOOD FOOD, GREAT DRINKS and AMAZING FRIENDS!!!!

Catching Up.......

Let's start this blog out on the positive.....

Ashlee
She is playing soccer for the first time ever. She was normally so sick in the winter/early spring that playing spring soccer was not an option. So, this year we took the leap and signed her up. The poor girl has had more games than practice because of the weather so learning everything has been a bit of a challenge. However, Coach Stephanie told me that she has been fairly impressed with her especially her aggressiveness and just getting in the game which is one of the hardest things to coach. Really, she just needs to learn the positions. She seems to do well on defense but offense is still a bit of struggle. The main thing is that she is having FUN!!!!

Allysa
I have Allysa in private tumbling as she prepares for trying out for cheering in Middle School( if the levy passes). Her Coach said that she has ALOT of potential and thought she should be ready by August!!! She also made honor roll for the 3rd straight 9 weeks!!!!
She attended her social which was an 80's theme. She looked adorable but was stubborn and would not style her hair nice and BIG!!! I tried to tell her the 80's was all about BIG hair :)!!!

A Funny starring Ashlee, Emma and Amanda
Amanda- Do you believe the Easter Bunny is real?
Emma and Ashlee- Yes
Ashlee- but I do not think he hops around in the house and how does he get here?
Emma and Amanda- Hmmm- not sure but I do not think he hops in the house either. S0, how about Santa. I am not sure the Santa that came to school was real?
Ashlee- I do, his beard was real.
Emma- I am not sure, Alli said she saw a string going around his ear and did not think he was real.
Me- Well, you all have to decide what you believe but is it worth the risk not to believe?
All- NO!!!

Other
As you know from the last post Amelia and Kaitlyn Wendel are now Beautiful Angels. Right now, our goal is to help Keith, Jen and Sam as much as possible. However, that is such a challenge because there is not much you can do but pray that in time healing will begin! I have to believe there has to be a balance between good and bad. So, my hope is that something special will be on the agenda for the Wendels!!!

Easter
Of course, today is all about what Jesus sacrificed for all of us and remembering how blessed we are. Again, the past few weeks have solidified that I am surrounded by the most AMAZING and WONDERFUL family and friends and I am VERY THANKFUL to have them all in my life. Today we have the Grandparents and the Langhursts joining us for dinner which makes this year EXTRA special! Happy Easter Everyone.

Last- enjoy the slide show of the last few weeks.

"Little Angels"

It has been a trying couple weeks since returning from vacation. Our good friends Jen and Keith were expecting twins and Jen started to have issues. Our hopes were high that the tides were changing when she got home from the hospital on Tuesday and each day that went by.

However, on Saturday she called needing us to watch their son Sam because she was not feeling right and was heading to the hospital. It was not good news when Keith returned, however we kept praying for a miracle. Unfortunately, they lost two precious little girls earlier this morning.

I know we are taught not to ask "Why" because God has a plan and I struggle with this from time to time and I am struggling now. So, I was given this poem many years ago by a mom who lost her daughter and in times like these that I seek those words out.

"Little Angels"

When God calls little children to dwell with Him above We mortals sometime question the wisdom of His love. For no heartache compares with, the death of one small child Who does so much to make our world, seem wonderful and mild. Perhaps God tires of calling the aged to his fold. So He picks a rosebud before it can grow old. God knows how much we need them, and so He takes but few To make the land of Heaven more beautiful to view. Believing this is difficult, still somehow we must try. The saddest word mankind knows will always be "Goodbye" So when a little child departs, we who are left behind, Must realize God loves children "Angels are hard to find".

On a positive note, it has been amazing to watch how their family and friends have rallied together to make sure the only worry they had was taking care of themselves! The saying "It Takes A Village" was in full swing here!!! I am proud and blessed to be surrounded by some of the most wonderful people who know how to put others first.

We have our biggest assignment, to help Jen, Keith and Sam heal during this time. There is NO doubt this AMAZING group of people will do it!!

Back to the Real World!!!

Well it is over :(, so here is my last post from Spring Break 2011- Myrtle Beach SC. It was a cloudy day but slightly warmer because the wind was not not near as strong. We were getting ready to head out to the indoor pool when Ashlee saw the para sailing balloon. The next thing I knew she said she wanted to do that and Pappy was on the phone to see if was even possible for kids. Guess what, as long as you weigh 40 pounds and have an adult you can go!!! I tried my best to paint the picture it was going to be really cold, windy and we had to get in the COLD ocean- I FAILED. Pappy said he would go and the next thing I knew Allysa wanted to go which meant I had to go!! We headed on up to 2nd Ave and off we went. Allysa was nervous but said she liked it, however the most precious thing was when Ashlee came down she was smiling ear to ear!!!! Again, it is nice to see her want to do things outside her comfort zone and want to do something she wants to do and not because her sister or someone else wants to do!! Enjoy the slide show until we return in June

Day 3- It is a Small World!!!!

Day 3 was much cooler, however still sunny and in the 60's which is better than what is in Ohio!
We are taking wonderful walks on the beach and have had some fantastic food.
The girls are still being spoiled rotten and not by us!!
As I said yesterday , we ran into the girl's dentist/ortho walking the beach and I thought that was a small world until I checked FB. While sitting in the indoor pool watching Ashlee I saw an old friend from my Pittsburgh Children's Days post she just checked into to the Caribbean Resort and Villa. In my mind I was this thinking no way what are the chances!! I have not seen Robyn in at least 15 years or more, it was wonderful to see her and her youngest daughter Jessica who was just born the last time I saw her!!! All I can say is what a small world!!!
Last, it was a pure joy to watch Ashlee yesterday. Allysa was not swimming and Ashlee chose to stay in the indoor pool swim. I am sure some of you are saying what is the big deal?. First, Ashlee would prefer to play with her sister than be alone but she chose to do her own thing and it was wonderful to watch. She played ball in the pool with a couple other girls and just plain enjoyed herself!! Plus, this entire stay many of my parents friends have commented on how much more interactive and talkative she is!! Watching her slowly come out of her shell and be her own person is amazing and I need to remind myself of these moments especially during the times she may struggle!!!

Day 2 In Review (3/11 MB)

Day 2 was just as wonderful but filled with drama!!! Kevin managed to lose another phone to Myrtle Beach by going into the water with the phone in his pocket!!! He has been like having a 3rd child and worse than the younger ones!!!!
So many from Ohio here and it just proves what a small world- we ran into Allysa's Dentist/Ortho walking the Beach. The girls are having a blast with Nana and Pap, in the water all day. Ashlee has been exhausted by dinner every night.
Of course, Ashlee observes EVERYTHING even when exhausted. Here are a couple of her questions:
- After seeing some sign asked " What is a wet willy"
- Why do you need Chlorine in the pool?

Our future home. It has "M" on top and I personally think that means Mascolino.
A Collage of all the Fun!

Day 1 MB 3/2011

Finally, after hearing " Are we hear yet at?" at least 1 million times and after Kevin ignored all warnings that his speeding was going to get him a nice expensive ticket(it did), we made it safe and sound to MB.
The girls are thrilled, they are being spoiled by their Nana and Pap and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. Of course the battle of who will pays the dinner bills has begun and thus far Kevin is losing so the rest of this week should be interesting. I will let the slide show speak for itself. Enjoy!!!

Fabulous Weekend and the Gift of the Unexpected!!!

This past weekend was quite FABULOUS!!!
It was kicked off with Movie/Drink Club with the girls and as usual it was wonderful. We are 3/3 in the drink and movie choice!!! Of course the company is EXCEPTIONAL!!! It will be sad to see it end but it will give us something to look forward to next winter!!!

Next, up Coco Key!!! We took the girls and went to Coco Key with the Langs!!! Not only did the kids have a BLAST but the adults did too!!! We were able to chill, have dinner (NO KIDS) and carry on adult conversations ( except those Jay or Kevin were involved in) while the kids enjoyed the waterpark. It is one of the times that I realize how lucky we are to have such GREAT friends!!!

Last, I received a very unexpected gift from Christa's sister Margie. It is " Lucky Bamboo" It is believed to bring good fortune and prosperity!! Even now as I write this the tears well up in my eyes because it is just one of the acts of kindness that remind you of the goodness in the world and how amazing people can be!!!! Now, let's hope I can manage to keep it healthy and alive!!! My track record with plants is not so good, I am thinking this one will change things!!!
Margie, you are one special lady and THANK YOU for thinking of me and for this wonderful gift!!!

My Child Really???

Today, Allysa got the "Good Conductor" Award for Team 1 at Hilliard Station. She tried to explain to me today on the phone but told me I would have to see it. As, I read it I began to wonder if they were talking about the right child. Do they not know that child who tortures her sister, does not clean her room ( aka pig pen) , who has to be told 50 million times to do something and generally does not do it until I yell. They always say you doing a good job if they behave outside of your presence. I will say I am very proud of her and take it as confirmation are doing something right.

Miscellaneous Updates

I know it is has been awhile but after my last post just was not feeling it! Decided it was time to update a few things:

Allysa- She continues to make honor roll and wrote a really awesome persuasive paper on "Why Junk Foods Sales Should be Banned in School". She tried basketball, not sure it is her sport but it was her first year and maybe with sometime extra practice she might have done better. Kevin was one of her coaches and that was good and bad. You have to love pre-teen hormones. We had nice little melt down last week over not finding a certain water bottle. Yes, you read a right a water bottle. She now realizes how crazy that was and now we can laugh about but that night I was not sure who would survive.

Ashlee- Doing well in school. She started back in tumbling but due to an ankle injury is back on hiatus. She said she did something in gym and although no fracture was seen she had to wear a hard sole shoe for 5-7 days so now we are waiting to see if that did the trick or if more imaging needs done.

Kevin- Well he is Kevin. He did manage to lose his cool Saturday at the basketball game and had to leave. He did cross the line yelling at the ref. and was smart enough to leave before being tossed out. Ironically it was more traumatic on Ash and me than Allysa. We had to listen to idiots in the stands (again he deserved some of this) but the guy behind us said some really nasty things and scared Ashlee to the point of uncontrollable sobbing because she did not understand why he was being so mean. She literally said "that man is scaring me"!!! Needless to say, I did not keep my cool well and I went into PROTECTIVE MOTHER MODE. I turned around to remind him that he was scaring the coaches daughter and although what the coach did was wrong his behaivor and words were not any better especially when you never know who is sitting around you. For the most part, I held off what I really wanted to say because there were children in the stands but I did call him a jerk in the end (not my proudest moment). However, I really think people in the stands need to watch what they say and how they behave- you never know who may be right next to you and the effect it may have.

Me- Just busy with work and kids. Still seeking some of the answers from the last post. A few things have happened that have given me a clearer picture about where I stand. Now the challenge is what to do with this insight, if anything? I guess time will tell and I pray God will help me with those answers and lead me in the right directions.

With that said it is FRIENDSHIP week and as I searched for what it meant to be a good friend, I found a couple of lists and many of those points hit home and I thought I would share. Sometimes I wonder if I expect to much of others but in the end it is the very last sentence or two in blue that hits home for me . So I will continue to be the best friend I can be and remember some items below that get lost from time to time. Of course teaching the girls these points so as they get older they will know what it means to be a good friend/person. In the end, I hope those that I consider my friend will do the same for me.

Spend quality time together. If you can’t go for walks or to yoga class together, then telephone or email your friend regularly. The conversations needn’t be long or personal; those quick “I’m thinking of you” moments can go a long way in making a strong support network.

Be there for the good and bad. Show up for the funerals and the weddings, the surgeries and the celebrations! Be sincerely sad or genuinely happy for your friend – and include them on the good and bad in your life, too. One way to be a good friend is to be inclusive.

Don’t keep score. Who called who last? Who bought lunch last? Who spent the most on Christmas gifts? Who forgot whose birthday? Who cares? If you have a good friend, cut a little slack. If your friendship really isn’t that great, then maybe you need to re-evaluate it. The health benefits of friendship will outlast the score-keeping cards.

Notice the little things. The conversations that matter the most are the quick little ones that last only a few minutes. It’s not always the deep long heart-to-hearts that bond friends together -- it's the day to day minutiae of everyday life. One way to be a good friend is to have short, sweet conversations.

Focus on the positive. We all have quirks and weaknesses; focusing on your friend’s strengths and wonderful qualities will keep your friendship alive and strong. To be a good friend, forget about the things you wish were different

Do not bad mouth you: A good friend does not bad mouth you or talk behind your back. A good friend is a friend you can trust and won't gossip about you.

Happy for you: A good friend never gets jealous on your success but would be happy for you. He celebrates your success and his success with you. When you are down and needs support he would be there to support and care about you. An ideal friend has a sensitive side which would make them understand others feelings. They may not be able to read your mind, but chances are they can usually tell when you're happy, sad, excited, shocked or upset. A good friend will likely know how to lift your spirits and make your day.

Giving: Good friends give more than what is asked. When they see a need they respond before the other has a chance to ask without expecting anything in return and without anyone knowing about it. Good friends are generous with their time, money, possessions and knowledge. Best of all they have a generous spirit
There is a saying that what you give is what you get back. The qualities you want in a friend should be the same that you are offering to someone else. How else can you expect to have good friends if you aren’t one yourself?

Until next time!

My Heart Aches...

My heart aches and NO it is not because the Steelers lost the Super Bowl, there is more to life than that( although I am alittle bummed). The heaviness in my chest, my mind not shutting off and now tears are preventing me from falling asleep is because my heart breaks for my kids more than I want it to sometimes. So, I am hoping if I put my thoughts into words I will feel better!

My youngest daughter is so bright and full of potential but just seems to struggle in some situations and no matter how much coaching I give give her there are times where it seems nothing works and it spirals out of control. She has come so far in last year and because of that nights like tonight seem harder to handle.

I try to do and say the right things and not interfere because I know she has to learn how to handle these situations on her own and at times kids will be kids, yet I wish kids could understand more how much their words/actions can and do hurt others. Yes, I know she is no angel and her own actions/words can makes things worse. and even I get frustrated (like tonight) because I can only "coach" for so long before I lose patience. However, as I think about things I realize what is really bothering me. The fact that she felt like an outsider in her own home, that she did not belong. I know kids struggle with this and she does more than others but it just should not happen in their own home. She should be able to enjoy herself and friends in her own home not feel like she has to "fight" to belong.
Maybe it is just me since we all I know I do not handle drama well, I hate when friends say or do things that hurt another but there is just something about feeling left out in your home that bothers me.

Lying in bed with my mind racing I realized even more , in some ways I get how she is feeling. Lately, I just not sure where I belong, feel disconnected... I feel like something is just off but yet I can not put my finger on it. I hope that whatever it is that will pass but I just have this feeling it is something bigger that has yet to define itself. Or maybe I need to just see if it is a full moon or if one is coming soon, if so it would explain why things do not seem in alignment. As you all I know I LOVE to blame full moons!

Have you ever had times in life where you just wish you could have a time out- I am feeling that way and very glad that I have tomorrow off. I am not sure it will be enough but it is a start.
Now, I just hope after writing all this I can feel better and move on and the heaviness in my chest goes away!

Good night all, my apologies for the "bummer" blog but here is to a NEW day!

Officially Spooked and In Loving Memory.............

In the EARLY morning hours I was dreaming. I remember my parents in it and then sitting on the floor was my Aunt Kath. I kept asking my mom "Why is Aunt Kath here and she looks the same, Aunt Kath is gone Why is she here"??? About that time I woke up and realized it was a just a DREAM, however it felt so REAL!!! I kept wondering why was I dreaming of Aunt Kath nothing was going on that I was aware of, at least not consciously ....
I began to think about the time of year and slowly realized it was early January and about the time she passed away. So, I spent the first few minutes of the morning searching frantically for something my cousin Stephanie had sent that had the exact date she passed.
GUESS WHAT???
You GOT it, she left this world and went onto heaven exactly 4 years ago today January 8th, 2007!

Although, I believe that those we love who go onto Heaven and do watch over us this has thrown me for a loop this morning and I am a little SPOOKED. This is not the first time I had a dream with her or Grandmother in it that it felt so REAL you forgot they were really gone for a minute.
However, it does make me sad today because it makes me realize that the whole in my heart is not gone! Today, the whole seems even larger! I know it will go away again and in my heart I think her appearance today is to remind me she is still keeping watching out for me and everyone else she loved.
As you have figured out my Aunt Kath was one person who greatly impacted my life and who I am. My Aunt Kath was tough as nails, the "F" bombs flew frequently when I was little( which till this day is a memory that makes me smile) but she was ABSOLUTELY one of MOST LOVING and CARING people I have ever met or had the pleasure of knowing. My Aunt Kath was there for everything, I always knew I could talk to her about anything. She was my safety net and I my heart breaks every time I think of what her grandchildren and my girls are missing. With that said, I am blessed and grateful for all the time I had with her and hope that I can pass some of that onto them.
I would end this by saying Rest in Peace Aunt Kath but I know that is not happening, she along with my Grandmothers are giving God a run for his money and I am sure Heaven is one happening place. I love and Miss You!!

Resolution and Reflection

As the new year begins, I tend to reflect and try not to make resolutions . I feel resolutions just set people up to fail so I am going to go with the more realistic approach and think about how I can just be a better person~

Reflections-

The one area I reflect on ALOT is- I am being a good mom to the girls?? I wonder if I am giving them all tools they need to make the right choices as they enter some of the most difficult years. When I see nastiness or kids making wrong choices, I always try to turn it into a a teaching moment. I know my girls are not perfect and there are things they do that sometimes may hurt someone. However, if I find out they know there are consquences. I also take that opportunity to discuss and give them alternate solutions so the next time it happens they can choose a better option. I know I am not a perfect parent so I hope the things I do wrong does not having last impact on them. I did not worry about this when they were younger but as they are getting older and more independent I just pray I am doing the right things to help them become good -hearted successful people!

I also think about how lucky I am to have some of BEST friends in the world. I know there are those who do not understand why they mean so much or why they are such a big part of our lives. The answer is quite simple- they are not just my friends but my family. Who says family is only those blood related, a family is so much more than that! A family are those who are there for day in and day out are or when you are not sure you even need something, who pick your kids up at the last minute because you are running behind or there is a conflict, who take your kids for weekend so you can go to a Steeler game :) , who are there to listen and do not judge even when they disagree and do not hesitate to pitch in and find ways to help when someone is having a rough time. The list could go on and on and on and on and there is just not enough time or room to list them all....
Please do not get me wrong, I love my family and they are there for me as much as they can be but since we do not live close to immediate family members I feel blessed and lucky to have such an AMAZING support system who started out as friends but now are considered family too!!!

Improvements
Doing things that make me happy and not worrying so much about how other family and friends may feel about it. I am always trying to do things to keep others happy or avoid upsetting them that I often end up miserable and just going through the motions. I know this is going to be hard because some people are not going to get it and my natural instinct is to keep everyone else happy. I am hoping that if I am doing more for me then end I am happier and those around me are happier. It is my life and I need to make decisions that are BEST for me and my family and stop worrying about everyone else and what they they think or if it upsets them! This is going to be hard but I am going to try, it is one of those improvements that does not happen overnight and will always be a work in progress.

2010 was not an awful year however there are some things I hope to see less and some things I would like to see more of!
Less- cancer and other devasting diseases, negativity, judgemental people.
More- cures or treatments for cancer, CF and Rhett syndrome and in general just people taking a step back before they say or do something that is hurtful to others!

In general I just want to be a better Mom, wife, daughter, sister and friend in 2011! I hope that 2011 is good to all that I love!
Happy New Year Everyone!!!
